What is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma, which is blood plasma containing a high concentration of platelets, also known as thrombocytes. The concentrated platelets found in PRP contain huge reservoirs of bioactive proteins, including specific growth factors and signalling proteins that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration, and stimulate the rejuvenating process. The PRP signals the body to send in stem cells to repair the designated area.
This treatment may improve skin texture and tone, restore moisture and glow, refine wrinkles and reduce scars such as acne or stretch marks, restore sun damaged skin while preserving a natural appearance. PRP can also be used to promote hair growth when injected into the scalp.
This is a natural and chemical free anti-ageing approach, using and maximising your body’s own powerful healing processes, reversing the common signs of ageing. Your PRP treatment is unique to you as it uses your very own cells – as a consequence the treatment is both natural and hypoallergenic.
How does PRP prepared?
A small sample of blood is taken from your arm, exactly like having a routine blood test. The blood is centrifuged and 10 minutes later the PRP has been separated from the whole blood and is ready to use. It will be re-injected into your skin using a very fine needle.
How many treatments are required?
This will be dependent on your individual situation. PRP treatment is often performed in a series of three sessions, 3-6 weeks apart.
What is the downtime?
A small amount of redness, swelling or bruising can occur in the treatment area when the PRF is injected, however this will subside in a few days.
